The new Praça de Espanha Urban Park will have more than 6 acres – an area larger than Jardim da Estrela – and will be an important green and leisure space for families.
In harmony with the Gulbenkian Garden and the Monsanto Green Corridor
The new configuration of Praça de Espanha will allow access to an important green and leisure area. In addition to a space dedicated to the cycle network, the pedestrian connection between Gulbenkian and Sete Rios will be recovered.
The water paths, which characterize this area of the city, will be brought to the surface.
In the year in which it is European Green Capital, Lisbon gains a more alive ecosystem here, which improves air quality, reduces the ambient temperature of the area and avoids the floods that plague this part of the city, preparing it for climate changes.
Soon, a new residential project will be born together with the rehabilitation of this area, promoting a lifestyle in communion with Nature without leaving the city center.
Today, Praça de Espanha is a disorganized area, disconnected from its original function as a traffic distributor. With the completion of the North-South axis, it lost its road importance.
The intervention will be phased, and will simplify the main road movements, making them faster and safer.
