Nicknamed the “new Lisbon’s lung”, the Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles Urban Park, in Praça de Espanha, has 6 hectares and over a thousand trees planted.
Located in the centre of lisbon, between the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the green corridor of Monsanto, the new Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles Urban Park, in Praça da Espanha, opened to the public on 13th June (Saint Anthony’s Day and municipal holiday in Lisbon).
With an area of six hectares and more than a thousand trees planted, this is one of the largest parks in the Portuguese capital and will paint with green an area that was previously occupied by traffic and cars.
The park will be further developed over the next few years, through the planting of new species and the growth of trees.
This is an important leisure area that will further enhance the Praça de Espanha area, one of the most desirable and cosmopolitan in the city, and will bring its residents a life in harmony with nature and ecology. Besides being an ideal area for family walks, hiking, or simply enjoying nature, the park has footpaths, cycle lanes, leisure areas, a children’s playground and areas for sports.
For all this, the park’s name pays tribute to the architect Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles, who played an important role in Lisbon’s environment.
